Alisha Gordon, designer and Creative Editor with Northridge Media gives us a sneak peak into the September issue of CARDS magazine. She also shares a step by step tutorial for one of the cards featured in this issue.
My passion for paper crafting began when I was a little girl growing up in Blackfoot, Idaho. I remember designing stationary sets and trying to sell them to the other neighborhood children, as well as making mini albums (before I knew what a mini-album was) out of my mom’s old gum wrappers. My love of paper and design drew me into the scrapbooking industry. I believe that scrapbooking is about more than simply placing a sticker on your child’s soccer photo. It is a form of artist expression, using paper as the medium and memories as the inspiration. I strive to bring practical products and ideas to the industry that save both time and money. I currently reside in Spanish Fork, Utah with my husband of Dan and our three children Tanner, Kelsey, and Cameron.
Pack, decorate, and create with style using decorative tapes and labels that inspire ohs and ahs. I first fell in love with these pretty packing tapes and labels by Tapeswell while looking for an alternative to the mundane address label.
I was overjoyed when I found the self-adhesive, decorative envelope wraps. They are a simple way to add a touch of flair to any envelope. We spend so much time creating a lovingly made card, so why stop there? The envelope deserves a little love, too! Tapeswell packing tapes come in an endless variety of styles and the creative possibilites are endless. Be sure to visit the Tapeswell blog for plenty of ideas using these oh-so-fashionable tapes. Leave a comment below for your chance to win a Tapeswell sampler package.
I have spent the past 10 years working in just about every aspect of the craft industry. Designer, editor, writer, instructor, and currently as the Director of Online & Social Media for Northridge Publishing. I am a life long crafter with a love for all things creative. I am also a geek girl enjoying anything to do with getting together or sharing online.
I am a single California girl transplanted to Utah where I live with my three muses – Sierra(12) Savannah(11) and Sedona(7). I can be found online into the wee hours of the night at my blog Craftification.com

Have you ever noticed that creativity is unstoppably contagious? Over and over we see people who are passionate about a craft (scrapbooking, sewing, card making, knitting), but don’t want to be limited to just one crafty endeavor. You dabble in crocheting, then add it to a handmade card. You learn a stamping technique, then stamp on fabric. You try out something new, just for the heck of it. We do that, too. It’s fun! It seems like creativity in one area begets creativity everywhere else.
So we’ve decided to make a big change here at Northridge Publishing. Our Scrapbook Trends, CARDS, and Simply Handmade blogs are now combined into a single, one-stop location for all things creative. Welcome to create:, a place where you can enjoy videos, tutorials, challenges, hot products, and tons of awesome ideas, all the time. We’re so excited!
To celebrate, join our house-warming party from now through August 6th to win lots of door prizes. We will be selecting one commenter on every post this week to receive a free 6-month online subscription to the publication of their choice. And join us next week as the party continues with awesome prizes from your favorite manufacturers. Check back often – watch for new posts every morning and afternoon.
Simple sentiments can say so much! I fell in love with this whimsical card by Kim Faucher featured in our new Christmas Card idea book. I just love the texture that the crinkled ribbon adds to the card. This would be a great card for anyone on your gift list, and the card front would also make an adorable tag to tie onto holiday goodies and baked treats.
Don’t forget to leave a comment to win a holiday prize pack. The winner will receive both our Christmas Cards and Holiday idea books, along with a fun embellishment pack from Martha Stewart crafts.
And be sure to get free shipping or $5 off our newest Christmas Cards 2009 and Holiday 2009 idea books! You won’t want to miss out on this sweet deal!

Do you have a long list of people to send holiday cards to? We’ve got the solution!
Try any one of the gorgeous quick and easy cards featured in our new Christmas Cards idea book. This one by Vivian Masket has boutique flair. Here are some tips to help you give beautiful, handmade cards without spending your entire season making them.
Streamline the card making process by creating cards in an assembly line. (You can even get the kids involved! They’ll have fun and also be proud of what they have helped create.)
Print out multiple sentiments or photos using your computer and home printer.
Use card pads that come partially embellished or die cut to eliminate some of your work.
Stamps are an economical way to create multiple embellishments. Stamp the image, cut or punch itout, and use foam tape for dimension.
Choose embellishments and stickers that come in multi-packs to save money. Chipboard assortments like this one from K & Company are very economical but still add great flair to your cards.
