Besides the cute cover project, it’s got lots more great ideas inside, like pretty altered printer’s trays and a tutorial for this clay rose magnet.

In middle school, I just thought I was being nerdy when I looked for typos on Spirit Week signage – little did I know I was training for a future career in editing. Now a mother of two young children, my days are full of crafting, writing, and activities that amuse the pre-K crowd. I can't get enough vintage typography and poster design, and never met a fabric store I didn't like.

I am so excited to introduce all of you to Lynnette Kauffman. Lynnette is the star of our “Designer of the Month” article in the August 2010 issue of CARDS Magazine. Today, she is here to share with you a card she made exclusively for our blog and answer some of our burning questions.

Name: Lynnette Kauffman
Blog: Netter’s Notables

Welcome, Lynnette! Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, my name is Lynnette, and I am so excited to be featured on the CARDS blog.  I live in Indianapolis with my husband and our pets.  I have a technical (and stressful) day job, so paper-crafting is a huge stress relief for me.  It’s a creative escape that I embrace, and thankfully my husband is an enthusiastic supporter.  CARDS magazine has been my favorite magazine for inspiration, so when I had my first publication accepted, I was elated.  Then to be asked to be the featured designer was something I had never imagined.

Hannah Craner

I am a crafter. I love creating in all forms: jewelry-making, needlework, book-binding, sewing, etc. However, my passion is paper crafting.

I am a graphic designer for CARDS magazine. I feel so lucky to work in an industry I love, doing something I am passionate about. When I am not designing the magazine or playing with my three cute kids, you can usually find me with a stamp nearby and paper in hand.

Before we start talking about the beauty that is baker’s twine, I’d like to take a moment to announce the winner from last week! I read all of your comments, and hope all of you have been enjoying your vacations! If you ever need a travel buddy — I’m game :) The randomly chosen winner is…

Congratulations Amber R.! Please email me your information at alishag@northridgepublishing.com and we will get your prize box out quickly!

I have started to see baker’s twine everywhere, and have found myself obsessing over the cute little string. Traditionally, it comes in a red and white combination, but as you will see it is now available in a wide variety of colors. Swoon! As I was purusing the CARDS August 2010 issue, I noticed quite a few cards using baker’s twine. Let’s check out a few!

This first one is by Brenda Weaver. Doesn’t the red twine just pop on this card? Adorable!

I've been scrapbooking since I was 16 years old and love the hobby more each day! I enjoy making things by hand - from cards and layouts to books and baskets. My day is not complete unless I've made something. I'm the Copy Editor for the Northridge magazines and love all the inspiration I get from seeing everyone's creations. On a more personal note, we're expecting our first baby, a boy, in October and we couldn't be more thrilled!

An Exciting New Article Change in Scrapbook Trends Magazine

With all the fun new changes here on our combined blog, I thought it would be fun to share a change to one of our Scrapbook Trends Magazine articles.

I have thoroughly enjoyed writing the “Stories to Tell” article each  month. I love words. I love writing in my journal, recording my thoughts in my scrapbooks and keeping a personal blog. I love e-mailing friends, updating my Facebook status, and writing a letter or two to far-off friends. I will always find journaling rewarding.

In 2011, however, I will be writing for a new article . . . a “how to” article to help share with our readers some exciting tools, tips, and techniques to include in your scrapbooks. If you’ve followed my “Work It Out Wednesday” blog posts, you know how much I love to try new things. But I need your help! We are looking for your work to include in the article. Show us how you use die cuts, mists, embossing powders, etc. on your layouts. Look for the “How To” article call on our Scrapbook Trends Calls page. Our first month will focus on “punches.”
